As part of the AIRQUEST project, a total of 180 trees were planted in the Municipality of Valchi Dol, bringing members of the local community together around a simple but important idea: actions for cleaner air should be practical, visible and sustainable.
The initiative was designed not only as a one-day environmental activity, but as a step towards creating lasting local impact.
Planting Is Only the First Step
Planting young trees is an important beginning, but their long-term value depends on what happens afterwards.
For the trees to become a stable part of the local green environment, their condition needs to be monitored and continued care and maintenance must be encouraged.
For this reason, the AIRQUEST initiative also focuses on raising awareness about the importance of looking after the newly planted trees over time.
Connecting Green Spaces, Air Quality and Human Health
Information boards placed near the planted areas explain the AIRQUEST initiative and highlight the connection between:
- vegetation and air quality;
- biodiversity;
- healthier local ecosystems;
- human health and quality of life.
By providing accessible information directly in the green areas, the initiative helps connect environmental action with greater public understanding.
The Role of Trees in Improving Local Environments
Trees alone cannot solve the problem of air pollution and cannot replace the need to reduce harmful emissions.
However, urban and community greenery plays an important supporting role.
Trees can:
- improve the quality of local public spaces;
- provide shade and cooling;
- support biodiversity and local ecosystems;
- contribute to more pleasant and liveable surroundings.
This makes green initiatives an important part of a broader approach to environmental sustainability.
From a One-Day Activity to Long-Term Responsibility
Continued care transforms a single tree-planting activity into a long-term environmental commitment.
This reflects one of the central messages of the AIRQUEST project: meaningful change may begin with a small action, but lasting results depend on consistency, cooperation and shared responsibility.
The 180 trees planted in Valchi Dol Municipality therefore represent more than a completed activity. They are part of an ongoing effort to strengthen environmental awareness and encourage more sustainable behaviour at local level.
