Day 4 (19.10.2025) – What tuning on your car you shouldn’t do
Location: Kali Driving School
During the fourth lecture of the AirQuest – Know What You Breathe: Mobilising Communities for Air Quality in the Black Sea Basin project, the team met with driving students and instructors at Kali Driving School to discuss the impact of improper car modifications on the environment.
The session covered key examples of incorrect tuning practices, including:
❌ Removing the catalytic converter or DPF filter
❌ ECU remapping without proper emission control
❌ Open exhaust systems that increase NOₓ and noise
❌ Incorrect chip tuning that raises CO and HC levels
❌ Improper tire and spoiler choices that increase fuel consumption
❌ Adding unnecessary weight (decorations, sound systems)
Participants learned that improper tuning can increase vehicle emissions up to three times and can make the car illegal to drive on public roads.
The presentation sparked an active discussion among young drivers about how aesthetic or performance modifications can have serious environmental and legal consequences.
