Athens, 20 November 2025
The MED-Routes consortium held a pivotal Transnational Project Meeting in Athens on November 20th, 2025, hosted by the Athens Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Representatives from Mediterranean partner regions gathered to evaluate progress, refine strategic directions, and prepare for the final implementation phase of the project.
The meeting agenda covered implementation updates, financial coordination, work package reviews, and future communication strategies. Partners confirmed that the project is fully on track, with strong results, collaborative engagement, and high potential for long-term impact.
Spotlight: Launch of MED-Routes Eco-Itineraries
A major highlight of the event was the official presentation of the newly developed eco-itineraries, the core outcome of MED-Routes. These itineraries combine cultural heritage, local community participation, and eco-friendly mobility, creating meaningful, responsible travel experiences across Mediterranean destinations.
Participants viewed promotional videos, interactive maps, and itineraries offering a first look at how travellers will soon explore authentic routes that promote sustainability, heritage preservation, and community well-being. All digital resources are now available online.
Strengthening Capacities and Building Legacy
Discussions focused on ensuring that MED-Routes creates lasting value beyond its formal completion. Key topics included:
-
Expanding capacity-building programs
-
Collaborating with local institutions and tourism stakeholders
-
Integrating eco-itineraries into existing Cultural Routes frameworks
-
Strategic communication for long-term visibility and replication
Partners reaffirmed that MED-Routes is more than a collection of outputs — it is building a shared Mediterranean vision of sustainable cultural tourism.
Looking Ahead
The meeting concluded with a roadmap for the final implementation phase and explored future collaboration opportunities linked to European Cultural Routes and regional policy frameworks. With strong results and committed partners, MED-Routes is well-positioned to continue shaping sustainable tourism across the Mediterranean.
