On 19 June 2026 at 14:00, the Bulgarian Association for Transfer of Technology and Innovation – BATTI will organise an information event dedicated to improving the accessibility of transport infrastructure and services for persons with disabilities and passengers with reduced mobility.
The event will take place in the conference hall of Hotel Modus in Varna and is intended for employees of the Port of Varna who work directly with passengers, as well as for representatives of organisations and institutions involved in the development of accessible, convenient and inclusive transport services.
During the event, BATTI will present the international European project DANOVA NEXT, which is currently approaching its final stage.
DANOVA NEXT aims to improve the accessibility of transport infrastructure and services across the Danube Region. The project develops and implements practical solutions that support transport operators, airports, ports, railway stations and bus terminals in adapting their facilities and services to the real needs of persons with disabilities.
Participants will learn more about the project’s implementation, its main results and the good practices introduced by partner organisations in different European countries. The event will also present concrete examples of investments and accessibility improvements implemented by partners such as the Port of Kotor, Budapest Airport, Dubrovnik Airport and other transport operators.
The programme will include:
- results from the analysis of the needs of persons with disabilities in Bulgaria;
- Key findings from the other partner countries;
- practical ideas for improving port and transport environments;
- good practices that could be adapted to the local context;
- a specially developed tool for assessing the current accessibility of transport operators;
- Specific recommendations for improving infrastructure, services and passenger assistance.
The event will provide an opportunity to exchange experiences, discuss existing challenges and present practical steps towards creating a more accessible and inclusive transport environment for everyone.
